Erasmus Milan started as a way to help exchange students find each other in a city that doesn’t hand you a manual. Thousands of students have landed here since, panicked about documents, found a flat, found a group, and left with a phone full of photos.
 
This guide is what we’d tell a friend arriving next month. Every figure in it was checked against the source in 2026.

Written for EU students first

Search “documents to move to Italy” and you’ll drown in permesso di soggiorno, type D visas and a €700 health registration. If you’re an EU citizen, none of that applies to you. It’s the non-EU process, and it’s what ranks on Google, which is why every September we watch students prepare paperwork they will never have to file.
