Milan is a quite expensive city, but there are still many things to do for free and we want to share with you our selection: Enjoy!

WANDER AROUND NAVIGLI AT SUNSET

After a day of sightseeing, probably one of the best things to do for free in Milan is take a walk in the Navigli district: the canals area of Milan. You can reach it by metro (Green line “Porta Genova” stop or Tram stop number 3/9/10 “Piazza XXIV Maggio”) and enjoy the sunset along the canal.

You can choose to eat an ice cream, have a great aperitivo or a romantic dinner in one of the several restaurants of the zone.

A must see is “Vicolo Lavandai”, a small street where women used to come to wash clothes until 50’s.

FLEA MARKET “FIERA DI SINIGAGLIA” ON SATURDAY

Every Saturday from 8am till 6pm in Ripa di Porta Ticinese (from the corner with Via Pasquale Paoli until the corner with Via Privata Eugenio Barsanti) you can find some real bargains in this historical flea market open since 1800: old vinyls, vintage and second hand clothes, collecting modern art, ethnic items, old and new books, dvd, old coins and much more.

FREE MUSEUMS EVERY FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH

Yes, you read it right! Since 2014, every first Sunday of the month public museums, galleries, parks, gardens, and archaeological sites are free.

Some examples? Pinacoteca di Brera, Acquario Civico di Milano, Castello Sforzesco, Galleria di Arte Moderna,  Museo Civico di Storia Naturale, Museo Diocesano and Museo Archeologico

MUSEO DEL 900 (CONTEMPORARY ART) ALWAYS FREE IF YOU ARE UNDER 25

Open since 2010 this fantastic museum of contemporary art, hosted in “Palazzo dell’Arengario” a few steps from the Duomo shows the best of Italian painting and sculture across the 20th century. The entrance, if you are younger than 25, is free everyday. If you like art this is definetely one of the best things to do for free in Milan!

RELAX AT “PARCO SEMPIONE” OR “GIARDINI DI PORTA VENEZIA”

These city parks are a must do in spring/summer when you have some spare time. Great places to relax, to have a pic-nic or simply have a walk with friends or your soulmate.

PINK FLAMINGOS AT “VILLA INVERNIZZI”

There is a house in the heart of Milan (Via Cappuccini, 3) where you can see from the street, something unbelievable for the city: pink flamingos! A great place to surprise your friends!

FREE WALKING TOUR

Nowadays probably the most cool thing to do in a new city to have a great overview of history and culture from a local point of view. These tours are organized from locals who want to show to newcomers the best of the city in an informal way.

VISIT THE CIMITERO MONUMENTALE

Inaugurated in 1866, the Cimitero Monumentale is the most famous cemetery in the city. In its sculptures and architectures you can see the history of Milan and the majority of its styles, from realism/eclecticism of late ‘800, to liberty and symbolism of early ‘900.

We cannot forget to mention that here are buried most of the famous celebrities of the city. Absolutely a must see!

CRITICAL MASS

The famous cycling event originated in 1992 in San Francisco and nowadays being held in around 300 cities around the world occurs every thursday of the year in Milan. You will need only your bike and your easy going mood. A good way to meet new people and to be in a good shape.

Meeting point: Piazza Mercanti (near Piazza Duomo) at 9.45pm. Of course, it is totally free!
